I sit here, day after day, wondering: why doesn't everyone look at labels and only buy American? To me, it seems like a "no-brainer" to buy American-made goods whenever & wherever possible. I know there are a lot of so-called "cheaper" options, but we are now seeing the true cost of buying "cheaper" - loss of jobs, product safety issues, closings of businesses, families & neighbors struggling to keep a roof over their heads & food on the table. Buying American-made isn't that difficult - all it takes is a quick look at a label or a quick search online - there are thousands of American manufacturers whose products can be found on the web - either directly from their manufacturing facility or they have listings of "Where To Buy". It is amazing the information you can find doing a quick search for "American-made products" on Google. There are many informational sites that feature searchable databases of American-made manufacturers & their products; there are shopping sites such as BuyAmerican.com, dedicated to selling only American-made products.
So many so-called "American" companies have taken production out of the country over the past few decades, leaving big gaps in the manufacturing sector of this country, especially in the textile & footwear industries. We are seeing more foreign products in more & more sectors, all the while hearing about failing businesses on the nightly news. If all consumers make a real effort to buy American-made products instead of the imported versions, maybe some of the so-called "American" companies that now produce their products out of the country will notice the rise in demand for American-made products and start to bring production back to this country, putting Americans back to work and stocking the store shelves with American-made products.
